Why take a lesson ?
Why take a lesson with The Spirit if Snow ?
Because it is one way to improve snowboarding skills.
Why take a snowboard lesson ? Can't you just teach yourself ? I recommend that you take a lesson the first time,
or take several lessons. Taking a lesson with a qualified instructor will increase your learning curve.
You will learn proper techniques the first time around, instead of developing bad habits that will prevent
you from becoming the rider you envision yourself being. Also, it's important to note that, because you are
developing good habits, you are effectively lessening your chances of injury. If you want to remain on good
terms with your best friend or significant other, never ask them to teach you how to snowboard. You need someone
who is completely objective, understands your goals, and has the resources to help you reach those goals.
Now that you understand why you should take a lesson, you can concentrate on how.
Take a lesson.
Here are the benefits of taking lessons:
- A lesson will help you build a solid repertoire of basic techniques.
- A lesson will allow you to share your frustration and successes with other starters.
- One of the largest benefits to taking a lesson is that you advance faster.
Here's what to expect in a snowboarding lesson:
- The best way to get started is to book a lesson straight with The Spirit of Snowboard school and sign up for a group lesson.
Lessons are usually given to groups of 5 to 8 people.
- Lessons will teach the basics of stopping, turning and sliding on the board in different directions.
- Lessons usually start with the very basics of snowboarding, such as balancing oneself on both edges (the toe and the heel), then gradually progress to the art of making turns in each direction (again both toeside and heelside).
- Most group lessons take from 1h30 (indoor) to half a day (in the mountains).
- Lessons are often grouped by ability level.
- Private lessons are available, but these are usually targeted toward those who already know how to snowboard and just need help refining their skills.
Now you're all set to hit the slopes. One more thing: Don't forget to stretch. Whether it's your first or 51st time snowboarding,
stretching will help your body not revolt on you the next morning. The Spirit
